How this site verifies Colorado gun law

Every legal claim on this site is verified against the primary source — the Colorado Revised Statutes, the enrolled act, the municipal code, or the official agency page — quoted verbatim, linked, and stamped with the date we last checked it. Nothing on this site is sourced from blogs, news summaries, forums, or AI recall.
The problem this method solves
Most Colorado gun-law pages on the internet are stale. Colorado changed its firearms law substantially in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 — including a major law effective August 1, 2026 — and pages written even a year ago now give wrong answers to basic questions. When we audited the biggest incumbent sites in this space in July 2026, the majority of their pages had not been touched in over a year.
The rules we follow
- Primary sources only. Facts come from leg.colorado.gov (bills, enrolled acts, session laws), the Colorado Revised Statutes, official state agency pages (CBI, CPW, Department of Revenue), federal code (uscode.house.gov, eCFR), and official municipal codes. News coverage is used only to discover that something happened — never as the authority for what the law says.
- Verbatim quotes. Where a rule matters, we quote the operative statutory language exactly, in the gold-bordered quote blocks you see on every page, with the citation linked to the source.
- Typography note. Colorado enrolled acts print newly added statutory language in capital letters. Quotes on this site are normalized to sentence case for readability; wording is never changed.
- Effective dates. Every quote carries the effective date of the language, and where a rule changes on a known future date (like August 1, 2026) we state both the current rule and the incoming one.
- Visible verification dates. Every page shows the date its claims were last re-checked against the sources. If a page says "Last verified 2026-07-20", that means a human-supervised process re-read the primary sources on that date.
- Litigation honesty. Colorado gun laws get sued. Where a law's enforcement is contested in court, we say so in a marked callout and label court-status claims that rest on news reporting rather than court documents.
- Omission over guesswork. If we could not verify something against a primary source, it is not on the site. No filling gaps from memory or secondary sources.
- No advocacy. This site takes no position on what gun law should be. It reports what Colorado law says.
